Jordan. Umm al-Walid, Umayyad fortified palace dating back to the 8th Century AD
-
Description
-
The ruins of Umm al-Walid cover the length of a small hill (about 40 m.). The site features a mosque, an eastern qasr, a central qasr, two Roman temples and a western qasr. Even though the site has been occupied since the Bronze Age, archaeological explorations have focused the Umayyad period, and specifically on the eastern qasr and the mosque (Bisheh, G. The Umayyads : the rise of Islamic art. 2000; p.93)
